Below are some key points to remember:
- Chemicals must be kept away from everyone except trained cleaners
- NEVER mix chemicals
- NEVER bring unauthorised chemicals onto the site
- Be aware of any potential hazards
- Be aware of safety information on label and SDS
- You MUST know where the Safety Data Sheets are kept – it’s a part of your job!
- Always dilute chemicals as per PDS or label dilution information
- Keep cleaners storage room clean and tidy at all times – this is a part of OH&S
- NEVER pour chemicals down an external stormwater drain/sewer
- Be mindful of manual handling
- ALWAYS use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when handling any chemicals
- Make sure there is plenty of ventilation when using hazardous chemicals
- Always refer to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for vital First Aid information
- Safety Data Shets (SDS) must be less than 5 years old to be current
- Call Poisons Information Centre on 131 126 for medical advice in case of an emergency
